Domestic Violence and Divorce

That's not what this post is about (but that IS what the homework I'm supposed to be working on is about). You may be asking yourself, "Monica, aren't you getting a degree in Art?" The answer is, yes, but none of that matters in my "Sociology of the Family" class.

And none of the aforementioned matters, either, because it's three in the morning (AGAIN, I know!) and I am procrastinating. I found these photos from May and they made me laugh. What am I even wearing (a dress and jeans at the same time)?

Flashback

I was looking through some photos and found these old ones from graduation (just think, in only a few months I'll have to make the distinction of which graduation I am talking about).

Poll

I'm starting to think that no one reads this blog.

If you're out there, please watch these videos and comment with which song version you like better.  This afternoon, while avoiding my thesis, I recorded both of these covers* of the song "Why do you let me stay here" (She & Him) with the program Audacity.  All of the vocals are yours truly and the guitar (that's been distorted by too much "noise removal").  While I won't tell you which one I like better, I will say that I think I sound better in one of them.

Enjoy:

Tomorrow I get to go back to Camp Royall and make up for all of the Autism I've missed the past month!  I'm sooo excited.  David's going to come and volunteer too :)

Love,
Monica

*And I acknowledge that I may have screwed up the lyrics in the song...

18 seconds left

Tonight, instead of writing my end-of-semester report for honors (which I am avoiding still by writing in this here blog) I had an impulse to buy legos.  Ebay is my friend, but I usually have had to take the easy way out by using the Buy Now option in which one doesn't have to go through the bidding.  You see, my only experience with bidding ended badly.  Senior year I sold my dirt bike in order to buy a kayak (I was going through an adventurous, nature phase).  I had the highest bid up until the last few minutes in which I was pushed to my financial limit.  As a result, one single tear of combined sadness and relief (it would have been a gigantic purchase) was shed and I moved on with my life by avoiding ebay for good...or so everyone thought.

Back to the present:  I am now the proud owner of a 1500+ assortment of lego pieces.  As a bonus, I've been promised some large pieces, some rare pieces (like umbrellas, wheels and corner units), some minifigs*, and some Star Wars pieces.  But nothing can beat the free priority shipping that I will be reaping from this battle of double-clicks out of which I came so victoriously (and in the very last seconds too).  The seller, stumpy31, promises that it will ship in 2-3 days.  I'll post picturreeesss.  Get excited!

I am starting to notice a trend, though.  Everything that I became sick of around middle school (i.e. legos, gameboys, hamsters) and, as a result of my assumed maturity, sold or gave to my cousins/Goodwill, I am now slowly buying back through online marketplaces (this behavior is not saving me any cash).  I think I'm reverting back to my childhood or something 'cause I'm practically an adult now and all I can think about is competitively obtaining legos and gaming appliances!

Love,
Monica

*I came away from this experience with some new knowledge.  Apparently the lego people are referred to as "minifigs" (I wouldn't get too involved with that link if I were you).  But if you were me, you would waste hours of your time with it.

Procrastination - drapery

I got this Drawing II assignment last Tuesday and have been avoiding it ever since.  This includes today, the day before its due date.  During these past seven days I simply have not been inspired to draw clothing (who ever has been?).  I'm okay with, and maybe even enjoy, drawing clothing folds and ruffles when they are being worn by people.  I don't, however, get a kick out of drawing heaps of blankets or curtains or dresses pinned up on walls.  Because of all this, even though I had set aside a good four or five hour chunk for the project this afternoon/evening, when Stephanie called asking if I wanted to get Japanese I quickly said "hai!" and offered to drive.

Little known fact: I don't actually like Japanese food.

After about an hour or two picking at Miso soup and a plate of rolls (seaweed wrapping tampura, apples and salmon) we decided to get tissues, makeup, toothpaste and floss from Target.  At checkout, DVDs were being advertised for $4.75 and I picked up Milo and Otis. When we got home we watched Milo and Otis and wondered how difficult it must have been for the makers to make the movie.  Did they film these animals endlessly until their movements coincided with the narrative?

Anyway, this went on until about 11:00 pm, at which point I panicked and began my homework.  This is the result, which I am happy about given the amount of time I did it in (I just hope my professor won't be able to tell that it was a last minute thing.  I mean, it's not great, but it's not terrible either):

This is a dress, that I ordered from the delias catalogue online, pinned to our living room wall.

That's it for now.  I think I'm starting to feel the effects of that raw salmon...
